Causes of Unwanted Hair
Many factors can contribute to the growth of excess hair:
· Heredity
· Normal physiological changes
· Malfunction of the endocrine system
· Medication
· Topical influences
· Stress
Heredity, as a cause of excess hair, must be approached from three different levels; race, nationality and family. Caucasian people tend to be the most hairy. If your ancestors lived along the Mediterranean Sea, your chances of having excess hair are greater. It is also a known factor that if your mother and grandmother had facial hair, your chances for similar characteristics are greater.
Puberty, pregnancy and menopause can also impact hair growth as the hormone production varies, and during these times, can be unbalanced. Increased male hormones (androgens) may be present which can cause the unwanted growth of hair.
Malfunctions of the endocrine glands can also trigger the growth of excess hair. Diseases of the thyroid, ovaries (such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), pituitary and adrenal (Cushing’s Disease) glands are known to stimulate hair growth. These pathological disorders must be treated by a physician to ensure the efficacy of electrolysis.
Medications can also influence the production of unwanted hair; among them being birth control pills, corticosteroids, some seizure drugs and high blood pressure medications.
External influences, such as friction, sunburn, scars and prolonged tweezing and waxing also play a part in increased hair growth. These actions upon the body can cause an increase of blood supply to the skin and hair follicles, stimulating new or coarser hair to grow.
Stress, both emotional and physical, can cause the adrenal glands to initiate a hormonal reaction that can cause fine, soft body hair to become more coarse and noticeable. In turn, these disturbances can influence other irregularities which can also affect excess hair growth, causing a vicious cycle of problems.
Regardless of the cause of your specific concern over that unwanted hair, electrolysis can safely and permanently eliminate it for you.
